IMG_0227Here is another cat reported by paranormal investigator Rupert Sheldrake in his book, The Sense of Being Stared At.

Walskins, a male silver tabby, was owned by a husband and wife in Berkeley California. The husband, a university professor, was often away on trips, some of them as far away as South American and Africa. His wife reported that,

She always knew when her husband was calling, because Walskins would rush to the telephone and paw at the receiver. …. “Many times he succeeds in taking it off the hook and makes appreciative meows that are clearly audible to my husband on the other end.”

But if someone else was calling, Walskins would ignore the phone.

How do we explain telepathy? No one has done that yet, but Sheldrake has this to say about the search for an answer:

For the time being, the most important point seems to be that for telepathic calls and for the connection of need or distress, what matters is the relationship between the two people. If two people are linked by a social bond, then this can act as a channel of communication between them.

I’m sure he includes cats and dogs, etc in this pairing.

I sometimes get impatient with people who want to explain paranormal phenomena with quantum mechanics, where two particles, two photons maybe, can be connected to each other, matching changes no matter how far apart they are. It becomes a catchall for explaining everything we can’t explain.

But this aspect of telepathy, where distance also doesn’t seem to matter, is suggestive that there may be something to it.

But a cat who can recognize who is calling on the phone from another continent is something to think about. Were he and the husband ‘entangled’ too? How we would like to know. I wonder when we’re going to find out.

    1. Hi Marcus – trying to reply to you earlier I accidentally deleted you – then went to your website and left a message on your Anne Frank post/

But now I’ve rescued your comment, so I’ll say it again. I’ve only read an interview with Dean Radin, but found him very interesting – I will look for “The Conscious Universe”

      1. Thanks. It’s good to be rescued 🙂

He has done newer works but I find TCU his best intro to the open-minded skeptic / layperson as regards psi research. Ver well-written. It still holds up 25+ years after it was first published, methinks.

But, of course, since psi is still a controversial topic, one’s mileage may vary 😌
